True Banking magazine spoke to Dr. Anees about the burgeoning Islamic banking and finance industry and its potential to flourish even further.
As a founder of the world’s premier journal of current awareness on Islam and the Muslim world (Periodica Islamica), along with over 300 articles, book reviews and bibliographies under his belt, Dr Munawar Anees is no stranger to leading philosophers and critical linguists in the Islamic world and beyond. He was also a former Advisor to Malaysia’s Deputy Prime Minister from 1991 to 1998 and a 2002 Nobel Peace Prize nominee.
In Dr Anees’ exclusive interview with True Banking magazine, he pointed out, “there is an increasing trend towards [Islamic banking and finance] and even the foreign banks operating in Pakistan are trying to lure the clientèle towards Islamic banking.”
Currently the Director General at Institute of Islamic Banking (IIB), UMT, Dr Anees also discussed current training programmes put in place for both new and existing Islamic finance professionals and how these courses and training contribute towards growing the pool of talent for the Islamic banking and finance industry.
