Retailers get fed up waiting, start their own mobile payment platform

Retailers are doing it for themselves…starting their own payment platform that is…

My colleague and I had a very constructive meeting this morning with a certain massive player in the payments space.

The biggest concern they have turns out to be understanding what retailers want and meeting those needs, and just as importantly, being SEEN to be listening to them.

So it was with some amusement that I returned to my desk and found a google alert to this from the National Retail Federation Blog:

A group of merchants, including Lowe's, Gap, Wal-Mart, Wawa and Dunkin Brands, have partnered to create a merchant-owned mobile application: MCX. This afternoon at Retail's BIG Show, some of the stakeholders in this initiative offered a look at the thought process behind the development of this jointly owned mobile payment company and some of the solutions, from both the customer and the merchant perspectives, that they are trying to provide.

See? they get fed up waiting for you to ask and do it for themselves if you're not quick…
