In spite of membership of the Weve consortium as reported yesterday Vodafone is set to go it alone, launching it's own mobile wallet service in conjunction with Korean company CorFire and Gemalto. Corfire will offer it's CorPay mobile wallet whilst Gemalto will make the whole thing secure.
Vodafone will bring their mobile payment offering to Spain and Germany first next year, then go wider throughout Europe by the mid-year point.
Vodafone will then make the product more widely available over the next 5 years.
"We are committed to partnering the best suppliers to offer customers the speed, simplicity and convenience of managing everyday transactions with a single wave or tap of their smart phones," said Christian Wirtz, Vodafone Group's mCommerce Director.
