According to some recent articles such as this one from Yahoo Philippines, Apple has signed a deal with Microlatch, an Australian biosecurity firm, showing their intention and direction to venture into mobile payments and virtual wallets.
Though iPhone 5 was recently released without NFC support, despite many industry experts predicting otherwise, we cannot be sure that Apple has discounted this technology. From what we've seen so far, Apple has a track record of arriving to the market late but their products still possess wide appeal.
