    Yuck! As soon as there is a special action required of the user (or even recommended to them) then who becomes responsible if the card is skimmed and the customer forgot to flick the switch?

    Methinks it’s better to engineer the cards more carefully (or more’s the point, invest the right amount of money per unit) so they cannot be skimmed over the air. All that’s required is proper mutual authentication of the reader by the card.
