Barcelona has become the first ‘tap and go' city in Europe, according to The Financial Times.
FT.com is reporting that La Caixa, the largest retail bank in Spain, will issue 1 million contactless cards to its customers.
The bank is also taking the step of providing 17,000 contactless payment terminals to merchants across the city.
The rollout is on the back of increasing support for contactless payments worldwide, and especially in Europe.
On March 20-21 in Sydney, the major cards and payments conference for Australia-Pacific will address contactless strategies among other payments trends.
Cards & Payments Australasia, which is being held for its 17th consecutive year, will also feature a conference day dedicated to Near Field Communications (NFC). To find out more, click here.
